Tyler winning this award was BIG. Not because his music is so great because honestly hes not the best rapper in Odd Future (Free Earl). This win was big because of the implications it has on hip-hop. The whole OFWGKTA is the epitome of underground music. They are not signed to any major labels and were largely shunned by most underground hip hop blog sites which left them with not much of an outlet for their brand of art besides their own website. With that being said, this was a monumetal in because It shows that if you have something that people like and can relate to, in this age of high speed information, you will be noticed and be successful and you dont need to conform to a record label and get "signed" in order to do it. Jay-Z is stirring up controversy and simultaneously squashes it with his “On To The Next One” clip, which was directed by Anthony Mandler, who’s recently helmed clips for Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, and others.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about Jay-Z and other acts (Kanye, Lady GaGa) being “Illuminatus” and Masons and worshippers of the Devil, and Jay-Z addresses this with the random imagery and weird vibe of his video, but by addressing it with this song, he proves he’s moving on while the rest of us are still chatting and spreading these “rumors” about him.

The video is a bit odd yet highly stylized and captivating, despite the fact that it is in black & white. Jay-Z knows how to get your attention and keep it for the timespan of a music video. My take is that Jay-Z is showing how he’s progressed and his businesses and money and influence have grown, through sports, fashion, entertainment, etc.

I have to say though, a lot of the costumes and imagery reminded me of Lady GaGa’s latest costumes and performances…

Was that Beyonce’? And was the hype man Memphis Bleek? I see Swizz Beatz in the building. The video moved so fast…

Few outside of the Prairie View Nation knows what this Championship means to us. I LOVE Prairie View and after the abismall losing streak in the 90's (80 Games) this Championship after a 6 year turn around was well over due and well deserved.

Of course I took the liberty on initiative to get some shots that ive never gotten before because i have many shots of saddness and disappointment (won an award for one of them) so it was a great oppritunity to get some celebratory shots.

Now dont get me wrong. Deeper Than Rap is my top Hip Hop album of this year and Ross did dodge those shots 50 sent at him like a pro but to tell the truth his lyrics arent where they need to be.

We all know that he can ride a beat but whenever you but him on a track with some real lyricist he always falters. Maybach Music 1 & 2 and Cocaine By Ugk are 2 of my prime examples. To be considered to be one of the hottest in the game you need to be able to at least hold your own against the best and Ross doesn't deliver in the area of content. He doesn't talk about anything. It doesnt have to be anything of substance necessarily but Ross doest talk about ANYTHING. If you break down his lyrics, nothing he says makes any sense. But..... it sounds good. Thats why i jam it. Ross was recently freed from Texarkana Federal Prison, after serving 14 years on a 20-year sentence for attempting to purchase 100 kilograms of cocaine from FBI agents in 1996.

“It feels superman, no question about it. Life is wonderful. “I can’t say much, they got a gag order on me, I aint supposed to be talking too much.”

At his height, Ross was allegedly grossing over $2-3 million dollars per week after cornering the crack cocaine market throughout Los Angeles and other cities in the early to mid 1980’s.

His 20-year sentence was appealed after a series of explosive articles appeared in the San Jose Mercury News, which exposed the C.I.A.’s role in distributing cocaine to black communities to fund Contra fighters in Nicaragua.

Ross’ legend has influenced numerous rappers throughout the years, including chart-topping rapper Miami Rick Ross, born William Roberts.

Rick Ross and the rapper Rick Ross have been at odds over the use of the name.

We chose the dumbest things to go the hardest for. I remember seeing deaths over 8 ball jackets, fila's , and name plate chains. Deaths over "he say she say"!!!!! "I'm from This block or I'm from that block", or "my moms n pops is f*cked up now the whole world gotta pay"!!!

I remember feeling like I was the hardest "n*gga" breathin. And I couldn't wait to prove it.
But let's think. What r we really proving?? And proving what to who?? Everybody knows Chicago breeds the strongest of the strong but I just feel, me, being ya brother from another state feels your pain as if I grew up with you in ya very own household.

You have the ability and mindpower to change they way we are looked at. Look who's watching us young warriors, look who's throwin us in jail constantly, look at the ignorance in the world. I think that this is a good look because there is definitely a yin and a yang to everything. I enjoy my violent gangster raps as much as the next person just like i like action and horror movies but their has to be that other side of things that are positive and in Hip hop culture i dont think their is enough of that to balance it all out.

Two years ago, in the comfort of his Waller County home, Justice of the Peace DeWayne Charleston sounded cocky as he accepted a $1,500 bribe from a demolition contractor, according to FBI files.

“We can own Waller County if we play these Negroes right,” Charleston said, referring to other black politicians he’s accused of bribing. If anyone asks about the bribes, he told the contractor to call them “campaign contributions.”

“Now it’s (the public official’s) fault if he didn’t record it,” Charleston said.

These statements, recorded by the FBI with the help of undercover witnesses, are laid out in a 31-page federal indictment unsealed Tuesday that accuses Charleston with orchestrating the bribing of two Hempstead aldermen, Larry Wilson Sr. and Paris Kincaid, as well as other Waller County officials.

Kincaid and Wilson already have pleaded guilty to soliciting kickbacks.

The 46-year-old Charleston is accused of conspiring and committing federal program fraud, joining a growing list of Waller County officials swept up in a FBI corruption probe that began four years ago.

After being arrested at his home Tuesday, Charleston made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Milloy who released him on a $100,000 bond.

As he left the courthouse Charleston denied any wrongdoing. “If I am guilty, I am only guilty of being a very bad discerner of character,” he said. “I expect to have my day in court.”

He indicated the money he accepted from the contractor was a donation for a nonprofit.

In an earlier interview with the Houston Chronicle, he said his only link to the corruption scandal is being “friends” with the four Waller County officials who pleaded guilty as part of the ongoing corruption investigation.

He added that any effort to implicate him will show “they’re coming after African-Americans because that’s the way they do business.” He was noting that all those indicted so far had been black.

Charleston was the first black in the county to win a justice of the peace seat in 2003 and been known as a minority activist.

But in recorded statements included in the indictment, Charleston is alleged to have said that electing a minority district attorney might be a disadvantage. He was referring to the 2006 election in which Morris Overstreet, who is black, was pitted against Elton Mathis, who is white, for district attorney.

“I think if that Negro gets it, I think he will take a (racial epithet) down a whole lot quicker,” Charleston said. “We can’t scream racism against him.”

Mathis, who won the election, said the FBI had made him aware of that remark, and now he must decide whether to file a civil suit to temporarily remove Charleston from his position while criminal charges are pending.

“I think (Charleston) may have a lot of statements he regrets now, if these allegations are true,” Mathis said.

Other arrests possible

The indictment accuses Charleston of conspiring to solicit, demand and accept bribes from a local demolition contractor in exchange for city of Hempstead contracts. Those contracts were funded with federal dollars.

Besides being accused of soliciting $14,500 in bribes, which he said he needed for “coating his pockets,” Charleston is accused in the indictment with fixing tickets. The indictment detailed $1,000 being paid by the demolition contractor for a speeding ticket.

“The public has a right to expect their public officials will objectively represent the interests of the communities they serve, not to sell their votes or support for personal gain,” said U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson in Houston.

The indictment hints that other arrests may be on the horizon. Charleston’s indictment mentions “an unindicted co-conspirator in Prairie View” had taken bribe money and then failed to deliver a job promised to a contractor.

The co-conspirator is not named.

Waller County Commissioner Sylvia Cedillo and Charleston’s relatives came to the courthouse to show support for the indicted justice of the peace.

“I’ve worked with Charleston on a number of issues,” Cedillo said. “Right now I am hopeful this is all a big mistake.”

The other Waller officials who have pleaded guilty in the FBI investigation for soliciting kickbacks in exchange for city contracts:

• Keith Allen Woods, former mayor of Brookshire from 1997 to 2007 and the city’s former economic development coordinator, pleaded guilty Feb. 15, 2008, to conspiring to solicit and accept kickbacks. He is serving a 37-month sentence in a federal prison in Arkansas.

• Henry Cheney, Brookshire’s public works director from 2002 to 2007, pleaded guilty Feb. 15, 2008, to the same charges as Woods. He is serving a two-year sentence at a federal prison in New Mexico.

• Wilson Sr., who was Hempstead’s mayor pro-tem and alderman from 2004 to 2009, pleaded guilty Feb. 25 to soliciting kickbacks. Wilson, who was also employed as a security guard for Prairie View A&M University, is awaiting sentencing.

• Kincaid Jr., Hempstead alderman from 2002 to 2009 and was employed as photographer for Prairie View A&M University, pleaded guilty Feb. 25 to soliciting kickbacks. He is awaiting sentencing.

This is the moment that made the water works flow for most people around the world. If you wer watching the memorial an hadnt shed a tear, then you did after she took the stage. For me this really put the whole death of MJ in perspective. He was a man with a family and to them he was more than a musical Icon or legend. To Paris he was daddy and to a little 11 year old girl that is her world.

I almost teared up but I had to keep it to together because I was in a room full of people at work.

What killed Michael Jackson?

This autopsy does not require a scalpel. A mirror will do.

“He had the nose of a black male, and he didn’t want one,” Scott L. Spear, chairman of the plastic surgery division at Georgetown University, told me. “He was a black man who wanted to look like a white Diana Ross.”

That’s not a cut, just a clue. Spear’s diagnosis: acute body dysmorphic disorder, from the Greek dys, meaning bad or ugly, and morphos, meaning shape or form.

For Jackson, it meant a world of pain.

Ironically, Jackson had emerged on the music scene just as the “black is beautiful” movement was becoming all the rage.

In 1968, the Jackson brothers made a demo tape in which Michael, then 10, sported an Afro and danced like James Brown. He was a handsome little man, black and proud. He had soul, and he was super bad.

And in little more than 10 years, he would start looking like a white woman.

Margo Jefferson, author of On Michael Jackson, called him a “post-modern shape-shifter.” But the history of race and skin color in America suggests something more pathological.

Evidence abounds that self-loathing can have dire consequences. Young black men, for instance, have killed other black men just because they didn’t like the looks on their faces — faces that more often than not resembled their own.

Jackson obviously did not like the black man he saw in the mirror.

Studies have shown that many African-Americans obsess about facial features or skin color that conflict with images of beauty promoted in the mass media, images that are usually based on some notion of a white ideal.

Black people spend as much as five times more on personal care products as do whites, according to some surveys — with skin lighteners high on the list.

“The word was that Michael had vitiligo, which started on his hand and around his fingertips,” said Cheryl Burgess, a dermatologist in Washington who is part of an elite circle of skin specialists that includes one of Jackson’s dermatologists. “Eventually, though, he opted for a treatment that involved complete depigmentation. One day, I looked up and Michael was almost white.”

Although the condition affects only the skin, the definition of vitiligo seems to reflect Jackson’s mental state as well: autoimmunity in which the body attempts to reject its pigment cells. It was as if Jackson himself had become vitiligo personified.

Distortions in self-perception are made all the worse when a parent is overly critical of a child’s physical features, as Jackson’s father was said to have been. There was nothing wrong with Michael’s face.

And yet he spent years and millions of dollars slicing and chiseling and burning away at it.

A once perfectly fine nose — from which he so abundantly inhaled the breath of life — came to appear as if made of Silly Putty by a 2-year-old.

“He probably had at least four or five, if not 10, cosmetic procedures on the nose,” Spear said. I asked if that was because the doctors couldn’t make it right.

“No, it’s because Michael Jackson could not be made happy,” he replied.

If longtime friend Deepak Chopra is correct — that Jackson was a chronic abuser of OxyContin, Demerol and other mind-altering drugs — then his despair was far worse than anyone could have imagined.

In the wake of his death, an adoring fan declared, “He didn’t have plastic surgery on his heart.”

But his heart was troubled nonetheless. For drug addiction steals the spirit, creating pain so great it sometimes seems that only death can bring relief. Paramedics who tried to revive Jackson say he went into cardiac arrest. That’s a disturbance in the rhythm of the heart, possibly due to lack of oxygen.

In this postmortem, however, the cause of such a disturbance would not be a lack of oxygen so much as loss of the soul.

The emptiness was etched in his face.

Earlier today a wave of sadness came over me because i was sitting and thinking about my last relationship and how it ended. This is my only relationship that ended this badly. All of my other Ex's i can still talk to and we are still cool but i dont think thats the case with this one.

I am a man and i can admit that alot of it was my fault and i have learned from my mistakes however the worst of it was not me or anything i did. It was one of those situations where you are blamed for something that you did not do and no matter how much you try to reason with the other person they still believe what they believe. I hate being blamed for things i didnt do because if perception is reality then whatever that person percieves is their reality.

Now since what she percieves is her reality but not actuality, i feel like it has irreversably damaged our relationship as friends because we were before we were together and thats what i miss most. That is what saddens me. And its hard to say you live and you learn, because its all over something that I wasnt responsible for in the first place. But, this is what i asked for..... so i guess i got it.

DAMN. I need to find something to DOOO!!!!

Friend Zone

One day I was having a conversation with a lady friend and that conversations made me think about alot of things. The conversation was based on relationships and what she wanted in one. Some comment that she made lead me to believe that if a guy starts off as a friend in her eyes then thats where he will stay.

Now that totally threw me for a loop, because I was under the impression that women wanted a companion that was a friend first as well as a lover.

This further confuses me because I kinda thought i knew what women wanted. I have constructed my whole approach around the thought that most of the women that im attracted to really want a down to earth honest guy that can hold a good conversation and makes them laugh. Maybe I have been living in a fantasy world to think this of the opposite gender. Maybe I should reevaluate my approach. Maybe the real world is just like high school where guys with the most pumped up bodies and most stuff get the girls.

Whatever I do i need to get out of The Friend Zone .

Day 1 At The Chronicle

As most of you know, i started my internship at The Houston Chronicle today and i was very excited/nervous. I say nevous because i have seen some of their photographer work and mine in comparison is amateurish.

How did this internship come about? I'm glad you asked! I will tell you.

In November 2007 i decided at the last minute to apply for The Chronicle's internship program but i didnt get in. Little did i know that it was not because of lack of skills or even because of me sending in my application at the last minute. That year the newspaper decided that they were going to suspend their internship program.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago when i received a email from the assistant internship coordinator, Diane Cowen. She asked me if i was still interested in the program and if i was then i should call her. I couldnt reach my phone fast enough.

Fast foward again to today, my first day on the job. I was pleasently suprised to find out that I would be shadowing Nick de la Torre in the photo studio doing editorial shoots all day!!! I could hardly contain myself because on my first day i got to set up a set and lighting and shoot with a 21.1 megapixel Mark 3. Those pics arent on here but the ones that i took with my own camera while Nick was shooting a swimsuit model are.
